Weekend Break

We had a lovely break over the bank holiday weekend spent at carfest South. The weather was thankfully kind to us if a little chilly first thing in the morning.
We stayed at a fantastic pub in Kingsclere called The George and Horn, where we enjoyed some amazing food from the chef and his wife. It was a menu of traditional English, Indian and Sri Lankan dishes. Highly recommend it if you’re ever in the area.
Although a long drive we could not resist the calling of the evenings Karaoke, the locals were exceptionally friendly and before we knew it we felt like part of the village, even got invited back for a birthday party in October.

The next morning, bright and early we headed over to Laverstoke farm, owned by 1979 formula one champion racing driver Jody Scheckter.
It’s a huge place!
Opened to the public annually as a fund raising event, Carfest hosts campers and festival goers alike , providing great family entertainment, amazing car clubs and track events with headline music throughout the weekend.

Before the madding crowds

The event is hosted by Chris Evans, with great comedy moments from the likes of Jimmy Carr and Rob Brydon.
Music from names such as Kaiser Cheifs, Steps – remember them – Paloma Faith, James Blunt and many more.
My favorite part was seeing
Jody Scheckter race on the track! Incredible man.

We spent 2 days, enough I thought for us oldies then back to the joys of the motorways. Don’t you love traffic!

Monday we had a relatively quieter day visiting a local village garden fete. The fete has been running for years in an older gentleman’s garden. What a beautiful garden it is. The last time we were there the gent in question did not attend due to ill health, fortunately he is feeling better this year so we sat and had a chat with him. He told us all about the work and fundraising for the village he and his friend of 60 years had done. Hats off to people that make it their life’s work to do for the place they live.
Obviously you can’t go to a fete without partaking in a cuppa and a slice of homemade cake, it would be plain rude, coffee and walnut that went down a treat.

Obviously i ate the cake!

Now, back to my keyboard, that best seller won’t write itself!
